    Description

20th Anniversary March on Washington Poster
    August 27th, 1983
    Measures approx: 21.5" x 14"
More than 250,000 gathered at the Lincoln Memorial, spilling out onto the Washington Monument grounds, for the March on Washington II August 27, 1983, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.
The goals of march were to spur more progress toward Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of equal justice and opportunity for all as well as peace. There were repeated calls by speakers for a new coalition to press for these goals. Coretta Scott King, widow of the slain civil rights leader, cited her husband’s opposition to the Vietnam War, “We must demand justice in Harlem and in the Bronx…but also in the Philippines. We must demand justice in the barrios of Los Angeles…but also in El Salvador.
