    Description

I bought this ukulele from Peter Hurney last year, and I'm not playing it enough to justify leaving it in its case (I prefer sopranos and concerts). It's a beautiful piece of workmanship, but it had to have some modifications to make it more easily playable. In the original setup, the strings were placed very close together to the middle of the fingerboard, probably because of the narrow space at the cover plate where they approached the bridge. It also had Peghed tuners that were not working properly (squeaky and jerky when turning). I brought the uke up to Jake Wildwood, the Country Guitar Doctor, and he widened the string spacing, replaced the saddle, and fiddled with the nut to accommodate the new range of the strings. Jake also replaced the poorly working Pegheds with Gotoh planetaries. The upshot is that the only cosmetic issue with the thing is that the nut still has grooves from the original string setup (Jake helpfully did this work on-the-spot for me and didn't have time to replace the nut altogether). Other than that, it now plays like a dream--big, booming, and loud when you want it to be, but perfectly willing to quiet down and become mellow when you take the heat off the strumming hand. Comes with padded Uke Crazy case.
